Description
Discover the beauty and idiosyncrasies of working with porcelain! In this hands-on workshop, Martha will share her slab building and altering techniques that exploit this elegant and sensuous material’s best qualities. Working with a variety of slab constructed forms in both the soft and leather-hard stages, Martha will demonstrate various altering techniques and additions of handles and spouts to create an assortment of functional forms. Forms will include cups, bowls, vases, pitchers, and baskets. Crack repair and mending techniques will be addressed, as well as the use of a spray gun for glaze application. Martha will also discuss her sources of inspiration, philosophy of making, and studio practices. Student will make their own flowing porcelain pots and have the opportunity to spray glaze a few bisque pieces they can bring to the workshop.
Skill Level: Intermediate – Should have taken 1 clay class or more. Advanced students welcome as well!
